I have been reading a new American History textbook for middle-school age students that is supposed to be grounded in teaching our history with an emphasis on Catholic saints who were a part of making America what we are today. Because I think that Black history, indigenous history, and Mexican history should also be included in order for students to have the full story, I am more than disappointed that much of what I already know has been left out of the text. I am not sure this is a real improvement on past textbooks. So I guess the choice was out of my hands and I will have to continue to supplement my guardian’s/grandchildren’s education with other important knowledge that was not include by the textbook writers/editors — again. That’s the choice I make, Tim.
