There are a lot of homeless people who live with mental illnesses that cause them to say irrational or inappropriate things. Or perhaps he was taught by his parents that accepting help from people of color was never an option. Racism does not rise out of nowhere. It has to be carefully taught. Either way, you did the right thing, regardless of the man's reaction.. God saw what you tried to do. He smiled on you that day, because in trying to help that poor soul, you were in fact trying to help the face of God you saw in the man. That is what Christ asked us to do---see His face in others.
